Three persons were injured as police opened fire in Taroda area of Nanded town, Maharashtra, on Sunday afternoon after miscreants set some shops afire, Special Inspector General of Police B N Raut said.
Fresh cases of arson were reported from Deglur and Taroda areas of Nanded, hours before Deputy Chief Minister Chhagan Bhujbal was to visit the town.
"Curfew has also been clamped in Nanded to prevent any untoward incident. The situation is currently tense but under control," Bhujbal said when he reached the town.
Nearly three companies of the State Reserved Police Force and nearly 1,000 district police personnel have been stationed in the area.
"An additional company of SRP has also been rushed to the area in view of the fresh cases of arson," Raut said.
Earlier, Bhujbal visited the riot-torn area of Parbhani in Marathwada district and met at the Civil Hospital those injured in Friday's blast in a mosque.
"The Deputy chief minister also visited the blast site and surveyed the area," District Collector M Chaudhary said.
"Financial assistance of Rs 5,000 each was disbursed to those suffering minor injuries while those seriously injured were handed over Rs 10,000 each," Chaudhary added.
He said curfew was relaxed in Parbhani on Sunday morning to enable people to offer namaz. The curfew was re-imposed later, he added.
