Arunachal Pradesh assembly Speaker Taoh Taga on Tuesday recognised the split in the Congress and the newly formed United Democratic Front led by former chief minister Gegong Apang.

The secretary to Governor Vinod Pandey, Jitender Narain, told rediff.com: "Governor sahib has asked Chief Minister Mukut Mithi to communicate to Raj Bhavan his views on the recent developments in the state, which led to the formation of UDF under Gegong Apang. We expect an answer from him by the evening."

Mithi can either prove majority on the floor of the House or resign, he said.

"If he chooses to face the House then the assembly would be convened at a short notice," he said.
