The issue of an HIV-infected woman being stoned to death in Chittoor district of Andhra Pradesh took a new turn with the victim's mother stating her daughter died due to natural reasons.

The victim's mother, Saradamma, claimed there was no truth in the allegations of a Delhi-based NGO, which had claimed that Pavnamma, 30, was stoned to death near Kuppam for carrying the disease.

The NGO had shot off letters to President A P J Abdul Kalam and Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu.

The Kuppam police and state administration had denied there was any such incident.

Naidu, who represents Kuppam, in the state assembly, is understood to have sought details of the case and asked health officials to submit a report on the incident.
