In spite of tightened security arrangements to ensure a trouble free Independence Day militants continued their attacks in the Kashmir valley detonating two more explosive devices on Thursday, official sources said.

Militants hurled a grenade on an army patrol at Rawach village in Rafiabad area of Baramulla district in north Kashmir around 10.15 am injuring a jawan, the sources said.

Security forces immediately cordoned off the entire area and a massive search operation was launched to nab the militants involved in the attack.

In another incident, militants detonated an Improvised Explosive Device on a road at Kadder village in Kulgam area of Anantnag district in south Kashmir on Thursday morning.

The IED was detonated with a remote control when some security vehicles were passing the road, but there was no report of any casualty in the explosion, the sources said.

Militants on Wednesday had caused four blasts in different parts of Baramulla and Anantnag districts, killing two civilians and wounding 48.

Bandipora township, which was rocked by a massive blast on Wednesday, observed a complete shutdown on Thursday to protest the civilian casualties.

Meanwhile, a Hizbul Mujahideen militant identified as Ishfaq Ahmad of Muzaffarabad area of PoK was killed in an encounter with troops of 47 Rashtriya Rifles during search operations at Kandi in Kupwara district.

An AK assault rifle, two magazines and 12 rounds were recovered from the slain militant, the sources said.

They said troops of 48th battalion of the Border Security Force recovered an IED weighing about four kgs at Saidpora locality of downtown Srinagar on Thursday morning.

The IED was being carried by two militants to plant it somewhere in the locality. However, they were intercepted by the troops during patrolling, but managed to escape leaving behind the IED, which was later defused, the sources said.
