Postgraduate Diploma Programme in Journalism

The Symbiosis Institute of Mass Communication, Pune, an autonomous mass communication institute functioning under the aegis of the Symbiosis Society offers a one-year Postgraduate Diploma Programme in Journalism through distance learning.

Programme: The programme offers courseware in print, radio, television and web journalism and aims at preparing professionals for careers in news and wire services. It lays emphasis on reporting, desk, writing, researching and producing print and electronic news.

Eligibility: Graduate in any discipline from a recognized university. Candidates appearing for their final year examination/3 year diploma holders may also apply.

Registration and Admission Process: For a prospectus and application form send a DD for Rs 550 (for applicants living in India) or a banker's cheque for $20 (for applicants living outside India) in favour of  'Director, SIMC' payable at Pune. Cover note must include name, complete address, telephone number and email-ID. Alternatively, applicants can visit www.simc.edu and go to the 'Correspondence Programme link,' select the 'Registration Form
link,' where they can either fill it online or send a printout along with a DD. On receipt of the prospectus and application form, do send in filled in the application form so as to reach the Institute on or before Monday, September, 2003. Last date for sale of prospectus sale closes on August 25, 2003.

MBA and Ph D Programme

Nirma University is a statutory University under the State Act. The Nirma Institute of Management, established in 1996, is now a constituent of Nirma University. The Institute's MBA programme is a two-year residential programme and its ninth batch commences from June 2004.

Master Of Business Administration

Eligibility: A three year Bachelor's degree in any discipline or equivalent recognized by the Association of Indian Universities/AICTE as eligible for Post-Graduate studies with a minimum of 50% marks. Candidates appearing for the final examination of a Bachelor's degree can also apply.

Admission Procedure: The prospective candidates are required to take the Common Admission Test to be conducted by the IIMs on November 23, 2003. CAT bulletins are available at select branches of the State Bank of India. The last date for issuing of CAT bulletins is August 22, 2003.

Applicants are required to fill in the NIM application form in addition to the CAT form. The Institute uses CAT for short -listing candidates for its full-time MBA Programme. IIMs have no role in the selection process or in the conduct of the
programme. Short-listed candidates will be invited for a personal interview and group discussion at select centers.


Ph D Programme

The Institute also invites applications for its residential Ph D programme in management. It is designed to prepare young men and women for challenging careers in teaching, research and consulting. Doctoral students will be provided a stipend.

Eligibility: A Master's degree or equivalent with a minimum of 60% marks or equivalent CGPA on a certain grading system. Candidates appearing for the final examination of their Master's degree can also apply.

Admission Procedure: A written test will be conducted in select cities. Short- listed candidates will be invited for a personal interview.

Doctoral Programme at Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad

The Fellow Programme, equivalent to a Ph D, provides necessary skills to identify and research complex issues in the field of management. The Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad, provides an excellent environment for conducting advanced research and aims to develop highly committed researchers trained in the most recent methodology and producing original research in Agriculture, Business Policy, Economics, Finance and Accounting,
Information Systems, Marketing, Organizational Behaviour, Personnel and Industrial Relations, Production and Quantitative Methods, Public Systems.

The programme aims to admit individuals with an exceptional academic background, strong motivation and discipline, and potential to become excellent researchers in academia and industry at the international level. Applicants are evaluated on their past academic achievements, motivation and preparation for the programme, letters of recommendation, scores on standard tests and a personal interview with the faculty.

Eligibility: Master's degree in any discipline, CA, ICWA, CS, with a minimum of 55 percent marks, or Bachelor of Engineering, with a minimum of 60 per cent marks. Those appearing for their final examinations in the respective disciplines can also apply.

Fellowships: The fellowship covers all academic expenses (consisting of tuition, computer, library, medical insurance,
placement and alumni fees) and living expenses, including boarding and lodging. In addition, students will be entitled to
out-of-pocket allowance ranging between Rs 72,000 per annum (for fresh graduate) to Rs 84,000 per annum (with work experience of 2 years or more).
