'So What is India's Philosophy?'

Your Views:I think its totally inappropriate that the other nations blame US for its misery. Its like blaming the kid who stood first in class for your failure in the exams. US is founded on the principles of life liberty and the pursuit of happiness. It is this guiding philosophy that has really worked for them. Every nation has its principles and if some nations are better off than others, then one must really take a hard look at those guiding principles. Also the politicians of the country should take it upon themselves to pound that idea onto every citizen of the country. No sets of principles are perfect and devoid of consequences. USA just got a glimpse of that and is working towards finding a solution for it. Can India do the same? Should India do the same? I think not because India is not America. Indian principles are not similar to that of the Americans. Indians have to find solutions to their own problems, from within their guiding philosophy. So what is India's philosophy? Is it the Gandhian way of tolerance, secularism, etc? Is it the Vedic way of world renunciation?I think its time that we begin to think about what India really stands for and begin re-discovering ourselves and our role in today's world

Your Views:I read the post on this group, my husband even posted his views, but mine are a little different. I am just a working "mother" of four children. 9/11 was tragic, but so was the vetnam, hitler's actions in Germany, China's war, etc. Why do we/you/everyone have to take innocent lives to save them? I am not in the american goverment, nor did *I* personally attack anyone else, but it's my children I have to worry about. Do I have any say so about wars, nope, that is all in the goverment, yet so many say it's justified that innocent people are killed, did they attack anyone, nope, but they are dead. You say "we americans" don't care what is really going on in other countries, boy are you wrong, but "one person" can't fix global problems, but if we took out the word "hate" from out dictonary for one second, and realized we are ALL human, we ALL have families we care about, and we ALL bleed the same blood, would it not make a difference? I don't know what is to become of the future, what "our" children will have to face, or "their" children, but I do know I hope all the 9/11's all over the world are stopped soon. We need world peace.

Your Views:I think it is time for America to disarm itself and become vulnerable to prove a point that freedom can be defended even without aggression! That peace as a value can be protected without having to guard it. It should completely demilitarise like Japan and then preach values of civilisation. Otherwise Bush will be looked at more as an illegal of Europe settled in America talking philosophy than as a committed statesman.

Your Views:Terrorism has its roots in poverty, discrimination, deprivations, inferiority complex of that group/communit/nation and religious bigotry. If the world and specially the super powers can address these issues with sincerety, honesty and courage terrorism will stay and also multiply.

Your Views:Enough has been said on US, its policies, and how we, as Indians, react to events. The one thing I found no Indian commenting upon is this -- the day that Madhavrao Scindia died, there was also a massacre of innocents by terrorists in Kashmir. I was going through Times Of India online, where I came upon a link which said 'Express your sympathies' (I do not remember the exact words -- but to the same effect). Disturbed as I was by the massacre, I clicked on the link to indeed express my views. Guess what! The tributes were for Madhavrao Scindia's death -- nothing to do with the innocents! I was disgusted to the extreme. This is how our media is. And what about the average Indian reader? Not a single protest from anybody! And we have the guts and the nerve to talk about the unfairness of US policies? Shame on us as citizens of India! We have got the society and the politicians that we all deserve! God Bless India (and may He/She save us from ourselves)!

Your Views:Dear Friends, it's become a habit of Indians to find scapegoats for their own lack of will power and courage. Why do you want USA to wash you when you yourself can't do it. One thing good about USA, is that they take care of their own. Whereas, the leaders and leftists, from the third world (and some from west), keep blaming the USA. Who stops your from looking after your own interests? USA doesn't. And if it does , who stops you from taking on the USA? And for the kashmiri who called Indians bastards, he should have know who is a bastard, specially after 1 million indian troops died in Kashmir.

Your Views:Hi Bart, I agree with most of the word you written, I understand some of the country just cant live without US help, but do you think its okay to go for Saddam now, when main culprit Osama is still enjoying his four wives in some grand bungalow in suburb city of Pakistan, don't you think he is capable to hit back the first possible chance he'll get. As a democracy why you helping a dictator, who even rigged a poll before its started, when you see a threat in Saddam, don't you see a threat in Musharraf, don't you see Taliban started in Pakistan and whole 911 fund came from pakistan, each of us know ISI supported Osama, not Saddam, each of us know Osama cant survive without help of ISI, each of us know he is in Pakistan, but pakistan still a strong ally, why ??

Your Views:A few bunch of idiots even have the adaucity to turn a blind eye to American atrocoties that have been commited across the globe, the support for the most brutal dictators, the black-mail of countries who does not conform to America bullying; was'nt the same America who supported Saddam Hussian to gas his own people? was it not the same America who created the Taleban and labeled them freedom fighters? Then we have this promoted ape claiming that the atomic bomb had to be dropped so it stopped millions of people from dying, how this lunatic came up with this concept I do not know! This individual who I guess has constantly his mouth wide open seems to have a short memory. The boy still lives in the old colonial era where they used to claim it's backward to be an Indian, I guess this bimbo is from the New White Order, the most notourious beast in the guise of humans. Anti-human institution that claimed they are the champion of human rights.

Your Views:according to me india is bound to be a greater super power that the US. but even indians think that american lives are greater than indian lives. hundreds of indians die daily but i see a lot of banners only on september 11 that too in india sites. I don't understand the logic. Why do we indians in the first place speak about the US when in the first place our country is no more a safe place to live? terrorists stike as and when they will. But our beloved politicians go for world trips to beg for world support to crush terrorism which is bleeding us. First of all we should set some constriants for the politicians to contest in election. most of them get elcted at an age 60 to get free medical treatment? we are not sure how long they will survive in the first place leave alone saving our country. Declare war against pakistan. i will be the first person to go to war. crush it! take POK. make it IOP(indian occupied pakistan). Destroy all terrorist camps in pakistan and then give freedom to pakistan(optional). this is the only way we can be free of the terrorist attacks. For heaven's sake donot put the life of our jawans into danger u sucki'n politicians. hindusthan zindabad!

Your Views:I am a US Citizen of Indian Origin. I have been born and brought up in India and still have very strong ties with India. The problem with India s it's leadership. I think the majority of the Indian population is in the age group of 15-35 years and look at the leaders we have, forget about guiding the nation they can't even stand up on their own. There is a huge generation gap between the leadership and the youth. And what I found real amazing was Mr. Vajpayee Shredding tears on 9/11, what a hypocrite he is. How can any of us forget Gujrat, where more than 150,000 people were displaced and look where leaders like Narendra Modi is taking India. I think Mr. Vajpyee is the most incompetent PM in the history of independent India. The best thing you can do for your country is to stop the Hindu fanatics and strive to make India a strong Secular nation under young leadership. God bless India

Your Views:Yes, Sept 11 was bad. But it is unfortunate that US had to face a Sept 11 tragedy to see what's going on in the world. US preaches that India should hold talks with Pakistan and exercise restraint. US itself has backed out of any talks with the taliban leaders and now Saddam. If talks are so important then why not practise before they preach. If dictator with WMD are evil then Musharraf should be the first one to go. While US continues to turn a blind eye towards constitutional amendments in Pakistan, it is forgetting that the same Pakistan was, is and will remain a fertile ground for terrorism. The money sent to the Hijackers orginated from Pakistan. They underwent training in Pakistan. Taliban came to rule because of Pakistan. Taliban has weapons because of Pakistan. AL-Qaida now has a base in Pakistan. Worlds reknowned dons are in Pakistan. Now US is funding Pakistan and guess what Pakistan will do with the money. It will generate more Taliban. I wonder if US politicians are really so dumb or they need war-like situations to coddle their votes during elections.

Your Views:It has become a fashinable thing to state something anti-establishment. Like trying to justify heinous acts - Be it 9/11 or the Bombay blasts or the daily massacres in Kashmir, sponsored by the 'democratic' dictator of the most important ally of US in the war on Terror. Americans are always objective in what they do and they are justified in trying to capture Osama. It is a war, and there will always be collateral damage. Yes, there will be Afgan civilian casualities. But the tremendous media coverage on this event? That has crossed all limits of tolerence. My message to all Americans and people who lost their loved ones in the attack - your loss is horrible. But try to get on with life. Remember the attacks only to be watchful in the future and not to increase the hatred. For hatred can only create more of it. As for us Indians - we should stop criticizing ourselves too much like the peudo secularists and pinkos. We have done too well in the 50+ years as a country. Sure, things could be better, but thats only going to happen if youngsters like you and me try with the right attitude. Let us stop pointing fingers and see what we can do in the future. Jai Hind!

Your Views:Ameica is after oil and their own interest. This inacrnation of beastality will go to any lenght to fill its stomach with the sweat and blood of humanity. Never in its history did this new face of fascism cared about the sublimity and dignity of humanity. It has caused bloodshed in the name of liberal democracy and human rights, a concept that has been distorted to carry out it sinical policy of world domination. This nation that drop the atomic bomb on the heads of innocent civilians speak of human rights. Some of these coconuts on the forum claims that if America did not do this that would have happend. I'll ask this question to these two legged gods!!! Did the world become a better place??? Did'nt this imbecile father calimed the new world order??? The fact is; its the USA which created their hand picked monster as in Bin-laden and Saddam. when Saddam was gasing the Kurdish population in the war with Iran, that caused the death of over 5000 in one of the villages, this same USA was turing a blind eye and even claimed that this did not take place.

Your Views:uys! I never imagined that some of us Indians can be so narrow minded and even cruel. You are right! We have 9/11 everyday in our country but then should not it make us more compassionate about 9/11 in the US? It is right that US does not mind its own business, but a country with US size a cannot ignore it either! These people are hardworking, nice, trusting, and sensitive. The only problem is that these otherwise virtues have turned in to vices. Their opinion gets formed by what their govt and television say. They believe in their government and question it only now and then. All this should make us feel more sad at their loss at 9/11. US does everything with good intentions, only that it results in maximum harm. And now though I cry, be sad with Americans in the memory of 9/11, I despise American polity for not doing the right thing when they could have! With great powers come great responsibility. US is doign what is beneficial and waht is practical to them, they should instead have done what is right, practically and ethically. do US citizens really feel that US has always acted ethically? (e.g., creating Taliban, Saddam, and now Prez Mush).

Your Views:I am an immigrant from India and very proud to make the US my new home. For all those who think September 11 was so called "justified", you need to have your sense of values, life and morality examined. It is one of the most sinister and graphic attacks on innocent people. The way the US is responding is in a very responsible way - measured and full of purpose. Indians of the the pinko, leftist variety like to give lectures to a great people and power like US. At least the US is fighting its issues in a very responsible and firm manner. There is a sense of pride, will and morality in the USA. It is not waiting for someone else to fight its wars. Now compare that with India - it cannot arrest a thug called Veerappan and its foreign minister accompanies a known terrorist in a jet and has him freed! The shame of it is the gall and audacity of pinko Indians to give the US lectures. Thank god for the US and its people for denying the Jehadis and lunatics like Saddam a stage. USA does not "need" India. There are no hard material or geo-political interests in India that the US "needs'. Now go offer a prayer to the 3000 victims of 9/11 - there were Indians in it,too.

Your Views:Wow! So many comments. Somehow rediff doesnt seem to be interested in putting up mine, let me remind my American friend, or any other pro - American friends who have written comments in favor of them, their "monetary" aid, and prevention of wars, is only purely economic, considering future markets, and present oil fields. Calling Pakistan is the biggest joke a country could draw upon itself, and America makes me laugh till my stomach aches. What they did in Afghanistan 15 or 20 years ago, to fight the now Russia is what became 9/11 and what they are doing in Pakistan now will become...God, I dont want to be right, but thats what I am. Good Luck America, hope in the far future at least, you turn into a sensible people and have a sensible president. As for India, who is this "Kashmiri Patriot"? Do you think we cherish 80k deaths? And do you think we are not sad? With people of your view point, the whole world might defragment one day, not just India. You think the Russians are happy after their dispersal into pieces? Why blame the politicians? We create them. Blame ourselves. There is a solution. Follow Vivekananda, "To improve the nation...first improve yourself." Jai Hind.

Your Views:Dear Rediff, What happened to the US can never be justified. For that matter if it were not the US and had it been any other country, I would say the same. At the same time, I also believe that the war on terrorism that US has declared is a utter failure. US is making the same mistake over and again. What do you call a super-power which resorts to the help of a terrorist country which has overthrown a democracy in a coup, which has extremism at its very core. It needs a little soul searching exercise. The Taliban was the same force which was helped by the Americans to overthrow the Russians. As the superman saying goes 'with greater power comes greater responsibility'. I would never accept that the American 'Diplomacy', if that's the way you want to call it or if that is what you are proud of, is or was responsible. They never were. All they care is about their nation, their people, trying to eliminate other opposition forces. All they look is for short-term gains. I dont want to look at people as Indians, Americans or Afghanistanis or as Christians, Hindus, Muslims. Lets see the world as humans and lets work for a better world, a peaceful co-existent world.

Your Views:New Delhi has become a prisoner of Pakistan. It has no powers to fight Pakistan nor has it power to enforce peace. Pakistan is not one issue that we have failed - we have failed on every front. Instead of building a modern India on the core principles of freedom, seculiarism, humanism and free enterprise, we have selected all the opposite. We kill minorities rather on a regular basis, we deprive our masses of good education, we suffocate our industries by massive nationalization, we encourage practices such as casteism and feudalism and corruption is an accepted norm. Instead of building a model country, which every Pakistani would love to defect to, we have converted India into a rotten Pakistan.

America is a beautifull democratic country who gives just opportunity to every human being irrespective of race, regions or religion. Do I need to tell you that most of the asylum seekers benificiaries are and were muslims in america. I love this country and its my second homeland. I wouldnt tolerate any nonsense against this country. its my karmsthali if not my janamsthali. shame on you who writes 9/11 was justified, you no different than the Americans saying hiroshima was justified. Killing of innocents is always homocide and it will be. Dont be jealous with Americas prosperity they have worked for it.

Your Views:Well I find some Americans too expressing their views in this column. And as expected they support their country's policies. I see this as not a mere activity of patriotism but a cunning and clever way of somehow force everyone to believe that what the Americans do is right by all means. Funny indeed. I won't say that they deserve 9/11 but I just ask them to think why it happened. Any self conscious person would know the answer.

Your Views:What should New Delhi do? Try to set our house in order without expecting any help from outside. The fact that US has declared war on terrorism does not really help up in any matter. We should not expect that US will come and bomb the terrorists camps in POK, if we expect any help or coordination from outside, from anyone else we have to pay back in kind. US will never go against pak or come clear on their policy on Kashmir. They do not need to, it's sticky business and its best for them to stay out of Kashmir. We are the ones to resolve kasmir, it's the political incapability and weakness that has put our country into this mess with pak. If we continue to be strong economically and politically we can even easily defeat pak's attempts to cause trouble in India. What we can expect from US and benefit from US is some coopration in terms of putting pressure on pak, supply us with latest tech, give us intelligence reports. That's as far as the common groud goes. As for impact of 9/11 on US, let US deal with it, we are already supporting US in every fight.

Your Views:Well said Mr. Bart Perry . Agree with you that justifying sept 11 is barbaric. But you have got too much hyped image of your country fed to you guys by those cnn goody goody boys. Well if US wants to rid this earth of nuclear weapons it should ratify CTBT first, rather than coercing others to do so. This is what you guys call hypocrisy in english ,if I am right. Please Start viewing the world outside USA in true light as it exists not as shown on CNN or some other goody channel on your idiot box. And I am so glad to read that you are using smart bombs and spending 100000$ instead of 300 to save human lives . Well so nice of you how'll those people ever be able to repay that debt . I truly admire your candour in stating that middle east will kill itself, balkans will burn, pakis will nuke their neighbours . Three cheers to your media for creating these images . Tell you what, These monsters are created by you guys ,and they are after you. And people of india are sad to see that you guys are still not realising the truth and hiding yourself in your own shell . Hope that you see the world in proper light one day.

Your Views:My last post seems to have gotten a few feathers ruffled in the Indian community. ok, let me try this one more time, and be more direct, I ...as an American want us OUT of NATO, out of world affairs, STOP giving out billions of US dollars. Let all these rulers kill themselves with there nukes, and nerve gasses, and shut off our borders to all of them. We need help ourselves from our government ...our government that is handing OUR money to little foreign countrys. I want us out of NATO! Millions of Americans feel this way as well. I in no way wanted to sound sarcastic, I was truly saying we need out of other worlds affairs, we are a self sufficient country, we need no exported fuels, as we have 60 billion barrels of fuel in our own grounds that could be pumped every year. we have plenty of home grown foods, and meats. There is no reason for the USA to help everyone. everyone can help themselves out for once. or...let somone else help these other little countrys. let someone else give welfare to all the illegel aliens that NEVER go home when there visas expire. Close our schools to them, our welfare to them, if you cant pay the taxes like we do, go home. Maybe this is clearer.

And why are we making fuss about the killings in afghanistan. Have we cared about the killings that take place in Kashmir everyday? Why doesnt our government take care of its citizens? Why are they allowed to die for no fault of theirs? Why cant they provide a better way of living to the common man?? Why do we have Godhra every once in a decade? I would like to ask my Indian friends as to why are they against a country that atleast values its citizens life? And finally why do you my Indian friends leave India and head to US? Please answer this before you talk about any other country.

Your Views:This is addressed to Bart Perry, (Deal with the facts. At first I as an Indian am hurt for the loss of lives on 9/11. But what US needs to do is find its true friends for a long term rather than short term for its fight against terror i.e Pakistan. US might be offering 60b USD / 120M tons of food, good. But what it has shown is nothing shot of looking the other way of the actions of Pakistan. Why it so happens to be the closest to Afganistan. What will it save on fuel and logistical cost, now that being penny wise pound foolish. What US created was Saddam and now they can't control him, this is waht is going to happen to Mushraff, either he gets bumped off by the jehadis or will keep those jehadis happy by bleeding India and asking US to turn the other way. Eventually these jehadis have no hate lost for the US and will strike back making POK as their base. Think about it, all that you offer can't buy you the freedom and support in real terms.
