Car carrying US envoy's wife
meets with accident in Patna

The wife of Kolkata-based American Consul General George N Sibley had to spend nearly an hour at a police station in Patna on Wednesday after the car in which she was travelling was involved in an accident.

Alison Sibley, who drove to offer obeisance at the famous Takht Harmandir Sahib gurudwara on her arrival from Kolkata along with her husband and staff, was taken to the Chowk police station after her hired car hit an old lady outside the shrine, Deputy Superintendent of Police (Patna) A K Gupta told PTI.

The driver of the vehicle has been detained, he said.

Sibley and his wife, on a day's visit to Patna, were not available for comment.

Leader of the Opposition in the state assembly S K Modi, who was lunching with Sibley, was informed about the incident. He charged the state police with having failed to provide adequate security to the visiting dignitaries.
