Pakistan criticises Russia for
defence supplies to India

Just days ahead of Russian President Vladimir Putin's proposed meeting with Indian and Pakistani leaders, Islamabad has criticised Moscow for its "uninterrupted" defence supplies to India, saying it has created "unnecessary problems."

It also warned that Pakistan would use all means at its disposal to defend itself, including nuclear weapons, in the event of an Indian aggression.

Russia's "unconstructive" leaning towards India and its arms supply has "created unnecessary problems," Pakistan's Ambassador to Russia Iftikhar Murshed was quoted as saying by Interfax news agency.

Putin is expected to meet separately Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf on the sidelines of Asian Co-operation and Confidence Building Conference to be held in Kazakhstan's capital Almaty between June 3 and 5.

Meanwhile, in an interview to the official ITAR-TASS agency, Indian Ambassador Krishnan Raghunath accused Islamabad of indulging in "nuclear terrorism."

"There have been blatantly irresponsible statements coming from Pakistan on possible use of nuclear weapons, which is really nuclearisation of terrorists," Raghunath said, noting that this was an example where promotion of terrorism and threat of nuclear weapons go hand in hand.
