Pak troops open fire along IB, LoC

Pakistani troops opened artillery and mortar fire in various sectors in Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday killing an army jawan and injuring two others.

Pakistani troops targeted several forward areas in Kargil, Drass and Batalik in Ladakh region with artillery shells from 1600 hrs on Wednesday to 0600 hrs on Thursday.

Heavy exchange of mortar fire between two the sides took place along the Line of Control in Poonch, Akhnoor and Sunderbani sectors of Jammu division, a defence spokesman said.

Exchange of small arms fire took place along the LoC in Kupwara in Kashmir valley and along the international border in Palanwala, Kanachak, R S Pura, Arnia, Ramgarh, Samba and Katua sectors in Jammu.

Villagers of Poonch and Suchetgarh areas have left their houses and taken shelter in safer places.

A control room has been established at the office of director, food and supplies, to ensure uninterrupted supply of essential commodities to the migrants.
