Pakistani troops fire on Punjab village

Pakistani troops fired mortar shells on a village in Batala sector of Indo-Pak border on Wednesday night, official sources said on Thursday.

The shelling was mainly on outskirts of Kotli Jawahar village and one shell fell on a house causing minor damage.

Sources said no one was injured in the shelling that continued for about one-hour in this village on Jammu and Kashmir-Punjab border. Constant vigil was being maintained in the region, they added.

Chief Minister Amarinder Singh had earlier this week directed Deputy Commissioners of three border districts of Amritsar, Ferozepur and Gurdaspur to keep a close watch on the situation along the Indo-Pak border.
