3 soldiers killed by militants in Poonch district

Mukhtar Ahmad in Srinagar

Three soldiers were on Friday killed in a fierce encounter with militants at village Loran Mandi in Poonch district of Jammu region, according to police sources.

The sources said troops cordoned off Loran village and mounted a search late on Friday.

Some militants hiding in the village opened heavy fire from automatic weapons killing the soldiers.

The troops returned the fire, the sources said.

The encounter was on when reports last came in.
