Jawan killed in Pakistani shelling

An army jawan was killed when Pakistani troops targeted forward posts along the Line of Control in Kargil sector of Jammu and Kashmir on Monday night, official sources said on Tuesday.

Ranjit Singh of 17 Garhwal Regiment was killed when a shell exploded near him at Budgam area of the frontier district, they said.

The unprovoked and indiscriminate shelling from across the border continued throughout the night, the sources said.

Indian troops retaliated, but the casualties on the other side were not known immediately, they added.
