Infiltration bid foiled, two ultras and army jawan killed

An army jawan and two militants were killed when security forces foiled an infiltration bid in the Swajian area of Poonch district in Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday night, official sources said in Jammu on Thursday.

Troops noticed a group of ultras crossing the Line of Control (LoC) near Bomb post in the Swajian area around 2330 hours IST, the sources said.

On being challenged, the militants opened fire forcing the security forces to retaliate, sources said.

However, at the same time, Pakistani troops also resorted to firing in the area, they added.

With Indian troops distracted by the Pakistani firing, the militants managed to return to the Pakistani side though two of them were killed, sources said.

The militants left behind two wireless sets, two pouches and some clothes, they said.

Two army jawans were injured in the encounter and one of them succumbed to his injuries while being airlifted to the military hospital in Udhampur, they added.
