Al Fateh's call for strike evokes no response in Kashmir

The general strike called by a pro-Pakistan militant outfit to mourn the death of four of its 'commanders' in an encounter with the army failed to evoke any response in the Kashmir valley on Friday.

Shops and business establishments opened as usual and all modes of transport were plying on all routes. Work in government and semi-government offices, banks, courts and other places in the valley remained unaffected, official sources said.

The strike was called by the Al Fateh Force to mourn the death of its four top 'commanders', including their self-styled supreme commander, in an encounter with the army in the Bandipora area of north Kashmir two days back.

Meanwhile, the Hurriyat Conference and Employees Joint Action Committee (EJAC) have called for a general strike on Saturday to protest the killing of a government employee by security forces in Baramulla district on Wednesday.
