Army kills nine Pakistani intruders

Nine Pakistani intruders were killed, as the army foiled a major infiltration bid in Kupwara district of Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday night, defence sources said in Srinagar on Friday.

They said the troops, guarding the Line of Control, noticed the terrorists trying to sneak into the Valley from across the border in Machil sector.

On being challenged, the terrorists opened fire and in the ensuing gunbattle all of them were killed.

The sources said the infiltration was aimed at sabotaging the coming assembly election in the state.

A large quantity of arms and ammunition, including Kalashnikov rifles, pistols, grenades and rockets, were found on the scene. The terrorists also had a satellite phone, the sources said.

Thirty-five terrorists have been killed while trying to sneak into Baramulla and Kupwara districts during the past two months, they added.
