J-K polls to be free and fair: Governor

"The elections would be held in a free and fair manner and the state and central governments are working in tandem with each other to ensure this," Saxena said in New Delhi on the sidelines of a meeting on 'Religious Tourism' organised by The Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India.

The Election Commission had deputed poll observers and many more would come, he said.

Asked whether the demand of some political parties for the imposition of Governor's rule in the state was justified, Saxena said, "such a precedence is not there in the Constitution so how does one justify it."

He again appealed to the separatist groups to prove their representative character by participating in the polls.

Asked about the demand for allowing foreign observers into the state to monitor the polls, Saxena said, "We have already made it clear that anyone can come and see the polls. But no one will be accorded a status of an observer as our Election Commission enjoyed the confidence of the people."
