Army foils three infiltration
bids in Kupwara

Josy Joseph in New Delhi

The Indian Army on Tuesday claimed to have foiled three infiltration bids in Kupwara sector, killing eight terrorists.

An army spokesman said a large quantity of arms, ammunition, bombs, rockets and explosives were recovered from the slain terrorists.

According to information available, two of these infiltration bids were foiled in the Machal sector and one in the Tangdhar sector in northern Kashmir.

According to senior army officers, in the recent days there have been high-volt attempts by Pakistan to push in "as many terrorists as possible" to disrupt elections in the Valley.

They believe these infiltration bids would not have been possible without active and direct support of the Pakistani army and its secret service.

"The pattern indicates that ISI-backed militant organisations in Pakistan are desperate to infiltrate a large number of terrorists into Jammu and Kashmir with the view to stepping up violence, disrupting elections and attacking the security forces," an army spokesman said.

"Pakistan's bid to escalate violence in Jammu & Kashmir by increasing cross-border terrorism will only frustrate the efforts to achieve de-escalation in tension in the subcontinent," he added.
