India's fight against terror does
not depend on US: Jaswant

External Affairs Minister Jaswant Singh on Thursday said India's fight against terrorism does not hinge on US assistance.

"We are not dependent on the United States of America for what we have to achieve as a nation. If the US chooses to help India, very good, but our commitment to Indo-US relations is on the basis of values. If it chooses not to (join in the fight against terrorism in India), then fine. India will still continue (the fight)," Singh told a press conference in Washington.

Singh said there is a clear recognition in the US that the anti-terrorism fight is indivisible

There is acceptance in Washington that "you cannot have what is called a good terrorist and a bad terrorist, acceptable terrorism and unacceptable terrorism, and that the fight against terrorism is indivisible in terms of region or spheres," he said.

"Increasingly, there is recognition that the menace [of terrorism] is really global in dimension and hence needs to be addressed globally."
