JKDFP team meets Pant

A two-member team of the Jammu and Kashmir Democratic Freedom Party (JKDFP) Thursday met the Centre's negotiator K C Pant, to hand over a letter from party president Shabir Shah, seeking clarifications on the peace process.

The team, comprising party chief organiser Saleem Geelani and secretary general Maulana Abdullah Tari, met Pant at his residence.

The letter seeks four clarifications from the Centre, which include whether the talks were aimed at resolving the Kashmir dispute and whether Pakistan, which is a "principal" party to the dispute, would be roped in later.

The letter also seeks clarifications on the role of the National Conference, Congress and political outfits launched by surrendered militants and whether the government would hold talks with Kashmiri militant outifts.

The team arrived in the capital amid threats from some militant groups.

On whether their role was confined to handing over Shah's letter, Geelani had said after his arrival that "we have a mandate even to present our case verbally and discuss the clarifications sought by our party chief."
