Sudarshan hits out at
'incompetent' PMO

Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh chief K S Sudarshan Sunday blamed "incompetent" officials in the prime minister's office for the crisis faced by the government in the wake of the tehelka.com expose.

Maintaining that the government need not resign on the issue, he said there should be no role for "extra-constitutional authorities" in the government.

"We have been telling Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee that only competent people should be appointed to the PMO. If there were competent people, it (the present crisis) would not have taken place," Sudershan told reporters on the concluding day of the three-day session of the RSS National General Council in Delhi.

Asked about the present lot of officials, including the prime minister's principal secretary Brajesh Mishra, he said: "They do not have the competence they are expected to have."

Replying to a question on the prime minister's response to his advice, the RSS chief said: "We have advised him and it is for him to act on it."
