Parliament adjourned for the day

A Correspondent in New Delhi

Parliament on Thursday was adjourned for the day following pandemonium over the defence deals expose.

Soon after the Lok Sabha convened for the day, both the treasury benches and the Opposition started hurling allegations against each other, while Leader of the Opposition and Congress party chief Sonia Gandhi sat quietly watching the proceedings.

While BJP members shouted Congress chor machaye shor , the Opposition countered with Chor sarkar wapas jao .

The Rajya Sabha too was also adjourned for the day by Chairman Krishna Kant soon after it convened, following the din raised by both the ruling coalition and Opposition members over the defence deals expose.

Soon after the adjournment, alert securitymen prevented the situation from worsening outside Parliament, when they prevented groups of the ruling party and Opposition members from coming to blows.

Trouble began when the two groups approached each other menacingly, shouting slogans against each other. Securitymen, sensing that things could deteriorate into violence, formed a chain between the two groups and swiftly called for reinforcements on their walkie-talkies, and managed to defuse the situation.
