According to a report, the roof of the mine caved in, burying six miners.
Another report said bodies of four miners were taken out in the evening.
Workers had gone inside mine four in the morning shift. At about 1230 hours, a portion of the mine collapsed, trapping the miners.
The names of the trapped miners were given as D Prakashrao, Sitaram Kallu (both mine sardars), Rajayya Ramayya, Pradeep Kumar Bholulal (loaders), Wasudev Bhikaji and Chandrayya Baimallu (trammers).
On hearing screams of trapped colleagues, other workers rushed to help, but could not do anything as a heap of coal had fallen on the six miners.
Rashtriya Koyala Khadam Mazdoor Sangh, affiliated to the Indian Trade Union Congress blamed the management for the accident and demanded action against those found guilty.
Union sources said this was the second major mine accident in eight months and alleged callousness on part of the Western Coalfields officials, ''who bother little to safeguard mine workers' interests and flout safety regulations''.
Police officials have rushed to the accident site.
