USS Cowpens Captain Paul Holmes, who hails from tiny Fort Dodge, Iowa, spent part of 1991 locating and destroying 58 Iraqi mines off the coast of Kuwait. The cruiser's maiden deployment was in the Persian Gulf. In 1993, Tomahawk missiles, earmarked for Iraq, were shot off her decks under the gaze of CNN cameras. | |
