Cox & Kings suffers a setback at the Kumbh

The Allahabad High Court on Thursday refused to interfere in the Kumbh Mela Commissioner's order asking tourist agency Cox and King Ltd to vacate its premises in the mela area.

A Division Bench comprising Chief Justice S K Sen and S R Alam observed that there was no reason for the court to interfere in the Commissioner's order, dated January 27 last, asking the tourist agency to vacate its premises.

The court, however, asked the authorities to refrain from using coercive means to remove the tourist agency from its allotted land in sector nine of the mela area.

The court directed the mela authorities to take into consideration the provisions of the Mela Act, 1938 as well as religious sanctity before considering applications for land for commercial purposes in the mela area in future.

The tourist agency had moved the court challenging the commissioner's order asking it to vacate its premises in the Kumbh Mela area.
