Two eyes for an eye, a jaw for a tooth: Shourie

Union Minister for Divestment Arun Shourie on Sunday night said that though he personally favoured the policy of 'two eyes for an eye and a jaw for a tooth', the nature of India's response would depend on the international pressure brought on Pakistan to respond to New Delhi's demands.

"For the past twenty years, I have been saying it should be two eyes for an eye and a jaw for a tooth but it is left to the prime minister, home minister, defence minister and others to decide what steps to take," he told Star News to a question on whether India should exercise the military option against Pakistan.

Shourie said Pakistan cannot escape the responsibility of taking action against terrorist outfits operating from its soil as they had been openly boasting of carrying out jihad, against India.

"In my view, no terrorist organisation can survive without the help and support of Pakistan. Terrorism in India is taking its toll and Islamabad has to take measures to stop it," Shourie said.

Asked what specific action India expected Pakistan to take against Lashkar-e-Tayiba and Jaish-e-Mohammed, he said they should be punished under Pakistani laws.
