Crackdown on Delhi's landlords; 23 arrested

Stunned by the attack on Parliament, the Delhi police has launched a drive against landlords not informing police about their tenants and arrested 23 such persons since Wednesday, police sources said on Thursday.

Delhi Police Commissioner Ajai Raj Sharma has taken serious note of the violation of the directions to all landlords, the sources said.

The arrests were effected in west Delhi and the landlords were booked under Section 188 of the IPC and 144 of the CrPC, the sources said.

Nine persons were arrested from Rajouri Garden, six from Uttam Nagar, three each from Paschim Vihar and Kirti Nagar and two from Hari Nagar areas, they said.

The crackdown was still on and more arrests were expected, the sources said.

The police launched a crackdown after the December 13 attack as it was found out that terrorists were using rented accommodation for hiding before carrying out terror attacks.

The Jaish-e-Mohammad terrorist outfit's main point man in Delhi, Mohammad Afzal, who was arrested in connection with the Parliament attack case, had been residing in a rented accommodation in Mukherjee Nagar in north Delhi.

He had even arranged rented accommodation in the same area for the five terrorists, all Pakistanis, who carried out the attack.
