Terrorists used laptop to generate map of Parliament

The laptop (computer) recovered from the two persons arrested in connection with the December 13 attack on Parliament was used by the terrorists to generate a picture of the layout of Parliament House and prepare a home ministry label and ID cards.

The terrorists used the laptop to put together 21 snaps of the Parliament House shown on TV on various occasions to generate a 'visual topography' of the complex to function as a guide map, Delhi police Special Commissioner R S Gupta told reporters in Delhi on Wednesday.

He said the five terrorists intensely studied the crude map in the run up to the attack.

The laptop, seized from Mohammad Afzal and Shaukat Hussain when they were arrested in Srinagar, had been handed over to Afzal by Mohammad, leader of the suicide squad, before leaving for Parliament House on December 13 morning.

Afzal was directed to hand over the laptop and Rs one million to Ghazi baba, supreme commander of the Jaish-e-Mohammad in Kashmir.

Police expected to retrieve 'a lot more information' from the computer, Gupta said.

At the same time, A R Geelani, the Zakir Hussain college lecturer, was revealing 'quite a few things', he said.

In the run up to the attack, the terrorists had made a lot of purchases, including khaki uniforms, which he clarified did not carry the Delhi Police emblem or any rank.

He said that the grenades used by the terrorists had markings of a Pakistan-based company.

He said the bodies of the five terrorists were yet to be handed over for last rites as the CBI was ascertaining whether Mohammad, who led the attack, was one of the hijackers of Indian Airlines Flight IC-814 in 1999.
