Army withdrawn from strategic locations in Delhi

With the situation stabilising in the Capital after Thursday's audacious terrorist strike on Parliament House, army units outside various strategic locations, including Parliament House have been withdrawn.

The army, which had deployed seven columns of heavily armed infantrymen in the outer perimeter of Parliament House, North and South Block and the residences of the prime minister and leader of the opposition, Sonia Gandhi, were withdrawn late on Friday evening, an army spokesman said.

He said the withdrawal of troops began at 1700 hrs and was completed by 1900 hrs.
