Battle against terrorism would be fought decisively: PM

Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee on Thursday declared that the battle against terrorism has entered its last phase and would be fought in a decisive manner.

All the terrorists who struck at Parliament House on Thursday, have been killed, the prime minister said in an address to the nation.

In a short message, Vajpayee said, "The attack was not on Parliament, but on the entire nation. We will see that the terrorists are unsuccessful in their attempts. We are fighting terrorism for the last two decades and the entire country is together in this crisis."

"We are with the families of the people who laid down their lives fighting against the terrorist attack on Parliament," he said.

Earlier, the prime minister's office had announced that Thursday's Iftar had been cancelled in view of the terrorist strike.

"As a mark of respect to the security persons who lost their lives in the terrorist strike on Parliament House, the prime minister has cancelled his Iftar party," a PMO spokesman said.
