7 villagers killed in Udhampur

Unidentified militants gunned down five Hindu villagers, including three women, at Village Sahar Mahoor in Udhampur district of Jammu region on Tuesday night.

Sources said militants opened fire from automatic weapons on the villagers, killing five of them on the spot.

One girl who received serious injuries in the incident was rushed to hospital.

Later on Wednesday morning when other villagers went to recover the bodies, there was an explosion in which two Muslim villagers died.

In another incident in Handwara town, 18 persons, including 5 security force personnel, were critically wounded when militants fired a rifle grenade on a high school where the Independence Day function was nearing conclusion.

Police said the injured persons were immediately rushed to hospital.

Militants also fired a rifle grenade at Sopore. But no one was injured.
