Putin holds informal talks with PM: PTI

Russian President Vladimir Putin Monday night held informal talks with Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee soon after his arrival on a four-day State visit that is expected to take forward Indo-Russian relations to new heights.

Putin, the first Russian president to visit India in seven-and-a-half years, had a private dinner meeting with Vajpayee at his official residence.

The two leaders will Tuesday have wide-ranging discussions on a range of international, regional and bilateral issues including developments in Taliban-controlled Afghanistan during one-to-ones and delegation-level talks.

Vajpayee and Putin will sign an historic declaration on strategic partnership and firm up agreements on defence, nuclear energy, civil aviation, agriculture, education and culture.

Putin will be accorded a ceremonial reception at the forecourt of Rashtrapati Bhavan Tuesday. He will address a joint sitting of Parliament on October 4. The same day, he will visit Agra and later fly to Bombay for interaction with Indian businessmen.
