RSS flays Centre again over hijack issue

E-Mail this report to a friend

Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh joint general secretary K S Sudarshan has criticised the Atal Bihari Vajpayee government for its ''capitulation'' before the hijackers of the Indian Airlines flight IC 814.

There is an urgent need to strengthen civil society and prepare it to face the threat of terrorism, he said, echoing sentiments expressed by RSS chief Rajendra Singh two days ago.

Talking to the media, Sudarshan said the government should try to rectify the lapses, such as those at Amritsar, experienced during the hijack crisis.

About the Ayodhya issue, he asserted that the RSS is committed to building the temple ''surmounting all obstacles''. When asked why the Bharatiya Janata Party-led government at the Centre had dropped it from its agenda, he said, ''As part of a coalition government, it is not possible for the BJP to carry this out.''

To a question on the relationship the RSS enjoyed with the Vajpayee government, Sudarshan said the RSS considered all governments since Independence as its own. He said the organisation had actively cooperated when the nation faced crises like those in the Sino-Indian war (1962) and the Indo-Pakistan wars of 1965 and 1971.
