'Hang the terrorists who are in jail'

Message:This has been a very sad chapter in Indian aviation security history.
But there are reports, even today, of scurity being lax in major airports including Bagdogra, Bangalore, Delhi and Mumbai.
When will the security authorities wake up to these problems? Our adminstrative machinery seems to be unable to rise to the challenge. If this crisis wakes up Rip van Winkle the nation would be grateful.
So far as the hijacking itself is concerned several questions remain. Why was security lax in Kathmandu? Why did the plane not land in Lucknow? Why was the plane not stopped in Amritsar? There was no time to put a truck in front of the plane but, surely,
it was possible to puncture the plane' tyres.
Once the plane landed in Kandahar our backs were against the wall. The Taleban is not exactly known for excessive kindness to humanity. Why did they not storm the plane or why could they not be
persuaded to let our own commandos storm the plane?
Even now, much can be done if we eschew adhocism ask hard questions and answer them honestly and plan accordingly. But my fear is we do not
learn from our mistakes.

Message:Dear Sir,
The release of 3 terrorists in exchange of the passengers is inevitable. The government has got no other go.But what I think was the government realised very late.If it had reacted, the very same day,the hijackers broke their silence, with the exchange of Moulana Masood Azhar, the entire drama would have come to an end.
A formal & through enquiry should be setup for the Amritsar lapse .
Atleast now,the govt. should keenly watch the movements of the released hijackers and security should be beefedup in all the airports to avoid any further mishaps in future.

Message:The Government has shown itself to be weak-kneed.If it not allowed its collective nerve to snap, we would have got both: the release of hostages and continued retention of the terrorists whose release the hijackers were seeking.
Aftre all, Taliban could not just afford to get its doorsteps bloodied at this particular juncture. As for its threats to drive the plane out, well, they were empty. Where could the plane be taken? Who would have accepted it? Ultimately, whether through a commando raid or otherwise, they would have had to prevail on the hijackers.
But the Govt. just chickened out. And now it is whining away and begging others to declare Pakistan a rogue state! Both our national interest and our national honour have been dealt a near-mortal blow.

We should all blame VP Singh for this.
Bjp govt acted perfectly well.
Now we have to make sure that insurgency in Kashmir does not rise...Indias fate is not so cheap as brainless congressmen are pointing out. They oppose every decision as they have to. They would have cried equally loud if terrorist were not released.

They should be simply terminated without having any court trial which takes more than one week. Had this been previously done, there would not have been any hijacking so as to demand relase of millitants.

Message:Another blunder as far as crisis management is
concerned. We have to be ready for any eventuality and
giving excuses like " flight 814 took off in a hurry from Amritsar"
should not be tolerated.Acting tough has to be the order of the day.
I feel we had no option but to release the terrorists when our aircraft was in
Afghanistan. But we should have RAW follow them and shoot them down as soon as the relief flight
entered indian airspace, with the passengers.Terrorism has no limits so should be reponded to accordingly.
Kashmir insurgency shall suffer, without a doubt. We have again shown to the world that we are a bunch of
unplanned, unprofessional billion indians who have nothing in their control.

Message:At the outset, we are very glad that the hostages have come out alive. But it is high time that the Government wakes up and acts quickly on protecting the
Fundamental issues that is guaranteed by the Constitution.
The Government handled the initial phase of the hijacking in a sloppy manner, which made the latter phase difficult and uncontrollable. Nevertheless, the incident has exposed the governance (or non-governance) in a number of ways.
First, the security of individuals in general and particularly the vigilance
at airports is too inadequate. The IA officials clearly should
have reinforced security by taking it all by themselves(by simply having a person at the
aircraft gates to screen the passengers) instead
of squarely blaming on someone else especially when it is well known that
Kathmandu is a haven for anti-national activities including drug smuggling. Privatisation of IA might make the people more accountable and hence more responsive to the situation, leaving aside beauracratic concerns.
Secondly, it is apparent that no one from the Government wants to
take up responsibility in despatching the commandos promptly at Amritsar.
They definitely would have been successful in thwarting the attempt made by the
terrorists. Agreed that a few innocent people would have lost their lives, but that is good
for a noble cause. It is important how a person dies rather than how many. Instead, we now
have our nation's prestige at stake. I am not sure how many innocent lives are at the mercy
of terrorists now that they have got an upper hand.
Third, the incident exposes our lack of any influence in international relations(including
with the UN). Sure almost every country condemned the hijack but then nobody came to our
rescue. On the contrary, we had succumbed to the Taliban's hidden motives. It is a matter of
disgust that at the end of all that agony and trauma for the passengers, the anxiety of our
countrymen and the Government, we had to "hand over" the hijackers to the Taliban even
without even getting to know about their true identities or wherabouts. I am shocked and
surprised how a handful of terrorists can hold the whole country at ransom!
Fourth, our Government should act at lightning speed to resolve terrorist cases. It should not give breathing time for the militants to revolt and get their leaders "released". At the same time the system will appear fair and just so prisoners are not held unnecessarily.
The Government cornered itself into submission by indecision, inaction and procrastination
and exposed the helplessness of the Crisis management team. I hope in the immediate future,
the Government is responsive and learns from this mistake by owning up the responsibility
and continuing its full term in office and repair the damage that is done and salvage our
lost pride. We are a great nation!
The Government should take up steps to strengthen its intelligence with enough powers to
make it a line function instead of the staff function that it currently appears to be. Also
it should take proactive steps to boost the morale of the army and security forces at the
border since they should not be led into believing that a terrorist caught will anyway end
up in a free release during at a later point of time. Next the pilots should be made to handle the crises better. The pilot should have made a minor technical snag deliberately so that it ends up stranded at Amritsar or at Dubai.

Although declaration or otherwise of Pakistan as a terrorist state may or may not help to bring it to task, the question to be asked is of every Indian. Are we doing our duties properly ? Aren't we ourselves to blame for the lapse of security, lack of awareness about security lapses, trying to find out easy ways out of the legal machinery, etc. ? Even if Pakistan is declared as such, will it stop Indians from believing in corrupt practices and corrupt people? Let us look into ourselves rather than looking out for solutions. Nevertheless, our defence forces are capable enough to teach a lesson to Pakistan if they play any more pranks.

But looking from the other side of the world I firmly believe that Indian intelligence agencies have to show some concrete proof of Pakistan's involvement. United States is another big rogue country which never gave a second thought or asked more evindence when it brandished Libya & Iran as rogue states. I think it requires bombing of American establishments by these Pak sponsored terrorists to have them recongnized by US as valid terrorist outfits. I feel sorry for the passengers of the ill-fated plane and Mr. Rupin Katyal. I pray for the day when India comes out of Discussions rooms to deliver some Action. Lets be agressive. Learn from Israel. Message:The whole hijacking episode, in spite of the safe return of the hostages, has left a very bad taste
in the average Indian's mouth. And I include the relatives of the passengers as well. Why? Here's why.
The BJP started off on the right track by saying that it would not buckle down to terrorism.
And we all thought - Ah, what a refreshing change. But then, what did we ultimately do? Exactly
what V P Singh did in 1989. And we all know what the consequences of that action are. We are
still paying the price for that. The issue here is more deep-rooted than it seems. When we talk
about nationalistic pride, the country that we should strive to emulate is Israel. Would Israel
need the US help to fight it's battles? it gets i without asking for it. Why? it has demonsrtated
that it can fight it's own battles, and fight it well, without anyone's help. And what does India do?
Appeal to the US to declare Pakistan a terrorist state. Tell me - Do I care? The answer is a
resounding NO. When the US says something against India, the politicians go on record stating
that we do not need their opinion. Then why do we need it now for Pakistan?
Its about time India tried to shake off it's bureaucratic lethargy and sent a message to all
concerned that we will not just turn over and play dead. its time to make some hard decisions.
The Israeli raid on their aircraft at Entebbe left four civilians dead but it also did something
else - It sent out a message that they cannot be pushed around. And the hard fact is that India
has been pushed around time and again and the most disheartening part is that there seems to be no
chance or signs of that changing. But hey, utopia is only in one's mind, right?

(a) Declare Pakistan and other countries which act against India's national interests as hostile/terrorist states. Mere declaration without suitable visa/trade restrictions will not help. Our Foreign Office is living in yesteryears. It needs re-organization with suitable policies and practices.
(b) Restrict Civil Aviation with countries who do not/cannot provide adequate security. Mandate that Indian Airlines/ Air India provide for Security of their aircraft/passengers/cargo.
(c) Significantly improve its electronic surveillance in and around trouble spots. Equipment is available to do this and someone needs to act.

they should be immediately shot down. Also what is the need to

provoking those militants to hijack indian planes and in return
