VHP wants J&K ceasefire cancelled

The Vishwa Hindu Parishad Sunday demanded the cancellation of the ceasefire announced by the government of India in Jammu and Kashmir and instead asked for a relentless war against militants.

Speaking to reporters in Ahmedabad, VHP international president Ashok Singhal said the recent attack by terrorists on the Red Fort in Delhi demonstrated that the ceasefire decision was wrong.

The central government should not have any soft corner for terrorists, Singhal said and suggested launching of an all out war against them.

India was always sincere in establishing a peaceful relationship with Pakistan, the VHP leader said, adding it was with this view in mind that Prime Minister A B Vajpayee went to Lahore in 1999, but was deceived with the 'Kargil war.'

Singhal was in Ahmedabad to attend the two-day meeting of VHP's international co-ordination committee which concluded Sunday.

Lambasting politicians for misusing religion to further their vested interests, he informed that after conclusion of Kumbh Mela, sants would march to Parliament to demand handing over ownership right of the land in Ayodhaya to a trust set up for the construction of a Ram temple.
