E-Mail this report to a friend

A bomb exploded on the main Ludhiana-Ambala railway line between Rajpura and Shambu stations in Punjab last night.

Official sources said in Chandigarh this morning that the bomb exploded around 2200 hours last night. Trains going towards the site of the blast were halted and a few of them cancelled.

They said about two feet of railway line was damaged by the blast. Senior officials from Ambala and Rajpura reached the site immediately after the explosion to get the damaged railway line repaired.

A report from Ambala said the explosion occurred near a culvert, about three kilometres from Rajpura. The overhead electric wiring was also damaged.

The rail traffic was restored at 0410 hours today on both the up and down tracks after the damaged track was repaired.
