Rebel trio may launch new party tomorrow

E-Mail this report to a friend

Sharad Pawar, Purno Sangma and Tariq Anwar are likely to launch their new party tomorrow rather than wait till June 10 as they had said earlier.

Stating this today, former Lok Sabha speaker Sangma said they saw little reason to wait any longer.

They met Chief Election Commissioner M S Gill today for choosing a name for the party.

According to Sangma, Gill approved of three of the four names they had provided. "We are meeting Gill again tomorrow by which time we will decide on the name," he said.

Sangma indicated that many Congress politicians from different states have got in touch with him and Pawar. Refusing to divulge names, he said calls had been received from Andhra Pradesh and Meghalaya, his home state. Feelers had also come from other north-eastern states, including Arunachal Pradesh.

In fact, Sangma stated confidently that in Meghalaya, there would be a split in the Congress and those supporting him would form the government.
