CBI expects last set of Bofors papers in July

E-Mail this report to a friend

Union Home Minister Lal Kishenchand Advani today said the Central Bureau of Investigation is likely to get the last set of documents relating to the controversial Rs 14.37 billion Bofors gun deal from Switzerland by July.

"It is a due legal process and the CBI is engaged in the task," he said in Ahmedabad when asked about reports that the agency had urged the Swiss authorities to speed up the transfer of papers relating to the alleged kickbacks in the howitzer deal of the late 1980s.

Recent reports had said the CBI had approached the Swiss authorities about the "mysterious" sixth bank account into which a major chunk of the kickbacks, to the tune of Rs 640 million, had allegedly been deposited.

A Swiss court is expected to give its ruling on the issue any time now, paving the way for the documents to be handed over to the CBI.

The crucial papers are expected to expose the "key" recipients of the kickbacks.
