MGP may 'split over pact with BJP'

Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Home Minister Lal Kishenchand Advani would campaign in Goa for the assembly polls scheduled for June 4, Bharatiya Janata Party state unit president Suresh Amonkar said.

Dr Amonkar told the media that BJP general secretary K N Govindacharya, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Gopinath Munde and others would join the party's anti-Congress rally in the state on May 8 and 15.

He claimed that the Maharastrawadi Gomantak Party, which had an understanding with the BJP in the 1994 assembly elections, might split on the issue of an alliance with the Sangh Parivar.

Dr Amonkar criticised former Union law minister and MGP leader Ramakant Khalap for bypassing the local BJP leadership in this regard.

A section of MGP leaders were likely to join the BJP, he said.
