Additional security for BARC, other nuke centresThe security cover in and around the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, Bombay, which played the key role in the May 11 and 13 serial nuclear tests at Pokhran, has been beefed up. A top police official said though nuclear establishments in Bombay and other parts of the country are ''well protected'', additional cover have been provided. Certain scientists, too, have been extended the facility. Bombay houses the premier nuclear institution of the country, the BARC, besides the Atomic Energy Commission. The organisations are headed by Dr Anil Kakodkar and Dr R Chidambaram respectively. The offices of the Atomic Energy Regulatory Board, Nuclear Power Corporation and Board of Radiation and Isotope Technology and the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research are also in Bombay. Other nuclear centres in Maharashtra include the Atomic Power Station in Tarapur, the Atomic Minerals Division in Nagpur and the Construction and Services Group in Pune. UNI
