Japan has been understanding about nuke tests: IndiaIndia said on Thursday that Japan has shown ''a measure of understanding'' to the security concerns which compelled New Delhi to carry out nuclear tests. Addressing a press conference in New Delhi, Brijesh Mishra, principal secretary to the prime minister, said Japanese Ambassador to India Hiroshi Hirabayashi, who was called to Tokyo on May 15 for consultations, had since returned and appraised him of the discussions with the Japanese leadership. Mishra said India was very sensitive to the anti-nuclear concerns of the Japanese people, who have been the only victims of an atomic bomb. He said Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, in his letter to the world leaders after the nuclear tests, had specifically referred to the Japanese concerns. ''We understand their position much better than those who are enjoying the umbrella of weapons,'' he said. UNI
