Nordic countries urge India to sign CTBTEnvoys of the Nordic countries have made a demarche to Foreign Secretary K Raghunath, conveying the ''utmost dismay'' of the governments of Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden over India's nuclear tests. ''The Nordic countries consider the repeated Indian nuclear testing in clear defiance of international norms and the strong reactions of the international community as a serious blow to regional security and to the global non-proliferation regime and international nuclear disarmament efforts,'' they said. They urged India to refrain from any action that could further deteriorate the situation, to reconsider its nuclear policies, and to adhere to the Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty and Non-Proliferation Treaty. They underlined the crucial importance of both these for nuclear disarmament. They called on the nations concerned to show utmost restraint to avoid a nuclear arms race. UNI
