Sanctions won't stall India's atomic power generation programmeThe sanctions imposed on India by certain superpowers in the wake of the Pokhran tests will in no way affect India's atomic power generation programme, Nuclear Power Corporation of India Chairman and Managing Director Dr Y S R Prasad said. Prasad said India has achieved near self reliance in construction, commissioning and operating atomic power projects for generating electricity. Most of the work, including civil and engineering designs and manufacturing equipment, are done indigenously. Asked if the NPC has made any contribution to the series of nuclear implosions, he said the corporation has no role other than the peaceful utilisation of atomic energy for power generation and producing isotopes for medical uses.
