'Why should we wait? Didn't we wait for 24 years?'

J N Dixit

The basic objective is that we acquire necessary strategic defence security at a critical situation in view of the nuclear and missile technology of our neighbours. This is to confirm India's missile and technology capacity and also spells the role we should play to establish strategic equilibrium in the international arena.

I am sure the Western democracies are going to be very critical. There can be sanctions imposed against us. They can be in the form of restrictions on trade, transfer of technology, withholding investment etc. As far as ramifications are concerned, I'm sure the government had weighed the pros and cons of all the reactions before going ahead with the tests.

You must not look at it as a partisan action. The BJP has taken a decision which is national in character. Why didn't any political party take this decision earlier? It is because previous governments did not have the guts to do it. The move itself adds to the credibility of the BJP.

There is nothing wrong with the timing of the test. Why should we wait? Didn't we wait for 24 years? Why should we wait?
