Indian

Sukanya Verma

Billboards are a key form of publicity, creating a larger-than-life image of an actor or actress.

If you have recently passed through Bombay's suburban Juhu, you can't have missed the huge billboard of Sunny Deol in Indian staring at you smugly.

Close by is Yeh Teraa Ghar Yeh Meraa Ghar with Sunil Shetty and Mahima Chaudhry giving him company.

Sunny Deol and Sunil Shetty! If Sunny is the shy reticent type, Shetty is media savvy.

Sunny, the conventional good-looker, made an auspicious debut in Betaab, whilst the awkward looking Shetty had a bumpy ride to stardom, even though his first film Balwaan was a hit.

Sunny Deol in Indian Notably, Sunny's attempts to try move away from the tough guy image backfired. For instance: Dillagi, Pyar Koi Khel Nahin. Action remains his prime forte.

In contrast, Sunil started off as a stereotypical action hero, and took to doing different roles with films like Border, Dhadkan, Refugee, etc.

Their roles in films might differ but when it comes to family, there's no doubting their sincerity as family men. Sunny's love for his family and children remains unflinching. Sunil, too, swears by wife Manna and his two young kids.

Careerwise, at 40 plus, Sunny is at an all-time high. Indian, which comes after the super success of Gadar - Ek Prem Katha is expected to make a deep impact at the BO, thus confirming Sunny's position as BO's safest bet and distributors' delight.

Sunil, who has just turned 40, recently dished out the utterly forgettable and long-in-the-making Itefaq. He now has his fingers crossed for the social comedy YTGYMG.

A closer look at the billboards and one is reminded of the time they posed together for Border. The duo worked together for the first time in J P Dutta's depiction of 1971 Indo-Pak war and got along very well. Sunil, who has known Sunny from his Mischief (the boutique he owns) days always held him in great regard.

Coming to the films, Indianis a typical brave cop on the mission potboiler starring the other Shetty -- Shilpa, who plays Sunny's wife in the film.

Yeh Teraa Ghar Yeh Meraa Ghar is slightly on the novel side where Dayashankar (played by Sunil Shetty) wants to reclaim his ancestral house from Saraswati (Mahima Chaudhry). Paresh Rawal completes the triangle.

Yeh Teraa Ghar Yeh Meraa Ghar Musicwise, neither Indian (Anand Raaj Anand) nor Yeh Teraa Ghar Yeh Meraa Ghar (Anand Milind) manages to sustain your interest. Apart from the catchy Saraswati of YTGYMG, while Indian has the foot tapping Deewana

Box Office's Indu Mirani says, "Sunil and Sunny cannot be compared. Sunny has been in the business for decades. His position is even better after Gadar.

Whereas even though Sunil has tried to attempt something different, he is essentially an action hero. And there is a certain crowd, which comes to see his films which cannot be compared to Sunny's loyalists.

Yeh Teraa Ghar Yeh Meraa Ghar looks promising mainly because after Hera Pheri, everyone is keen to see what the Priyadarshan-Sunil-Paresh Rawal team comes up with. But Indian is definitely bigger." Here's what the junta thinks:
Women between 25 to 55 are keen on seeing Yeh Teraa Ghar Yeh Meraa Ghar over Indian, because they found Hera Pheri great and are looking forward to another rip roaring caper.

Men between 25 to 35 find the subject of landlords and tenants quite intriguing so that's why Yeh Teraa Ghar Yeh Meraa Ghar has caught their attention.

As for youngsters and teenagers in South Bombay preferred to watch John Travolta's Swordfish (releasing Oct 12). Sunny fans have vowed that they will see Indian first day first show. Indian is pulling the masses, which constitute a majority population in India.

Hit or flop? Time will tell. Which one do you want to place your bets on?

Yeh Teraa Ghar Yeh Meraa Ghar and Indian hit the marquee on October 12 and 26 respectively.
