'I always wanted to be like Shah Rukh'

Hrithik Roshan is thrilled with the way Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham has shaped up. He considers the film as his best work till date.

"Even if I was offered a different role, I would have only agreed to do Rohan," says Roshan Jr, who is shooting double shifts at Filmcity.

The actor took time off his busy schedule to share his views with Bharati Dubey.

On Karan Johar

Karan is one of the best persons I've met. He is such a nice person; working with him is very easy. I have never been so comfortable. K3G is my best work till date.

On Kareena

Bebo is completely the opposite of me. She remains relaxed while I have to struggle with my lines and concentrate on the scene. She just breezes on to the sets, gives her shot and walks away.

On Jaya Bachchan and Kajol

I vibed very well with Jaya Aunty. In fact, I was comfortable with everybody. I was warned about Kajol. People told me Kajol was a difficult person to work with. But she was great fun. She's a fabulous actress.

All of them are so committed to the job. Everybody was trying to get the best out of the scene. There were never any ego problems and or clashes over who was more important.

On Shah Rukh Khan

I always wanted to be like Shah Rukh. He was very helpful. He has been my best costar so far. I'm going to miss working with him.

I have always looked upto him -- from the time I was assisting my dad (actor-turned-director Rakesh Roshan).

On Amitabh Bachchan

There is a confrontation scene between Amitabh Bachchan and Shah Rukh. I watched them act. I was so amazed by their performance that I went up to them to tell them.

I felt really small the next scene with both in the same frame. I told them I didn't know how to do it any more after seeing their performances. I was completely lost.

And then Amitabh Bachchan told me to simply be the character, instead of being me. That is exactly what I did and it worked.

How much of your own personality traits go into your roles?

I use a lot of my childhood though I really cannot pinpoint them. It depends on the character.

If there is a situation in a film that is close to what has happened in my life, I use those memories for that situation.

Screen presence is all about being involved in a scene. If you are focused on the role and concentrate on the character, the presence will be automatically felt. Eventually, you will feel the impact.

How have you grown as an actor?

I am four films old; I have no complaints. I have definitely grown as an actor. I have become much more comfortable with my work. I am enjoying myself.

But the challenges have increased. The expectations have increased. The fight to exceed is still on. And I don't think it should ever end. It keeps me motivated.
