Market@March 16: Day's report

After remaining strong during the first half of the day, tech stocks showed a sharp reaction during the second half of the day.

NIIT, Himachal, Satyam, Infosys, and Silverline lost substantially from their peak levels. SSI however remained strong for a major part of the day. It gained 16 per cent.

The old economy counters also witnessed selling pressure at higher levels. MTNL and ACC meanwhile showed smart gains. The overall trading volume was relatively high.

Sensex down 86 points at 3734. Nifty down 26 points at 1191.

Gujarat Gas, MTNL, Hoechst Mar, Vorin Lab, VJIL, Vinati Org.

Losers: Between 7.9 per cent and 16 per cent
Saw Pipes, NIIT, ICICI Bank, Bhel, Tips, TVS Suzuki, Jindal Steel, Bilt, Amara Raja Batteries, ABB.
