Market@March 13: Day's report

It all started with tech stocks opening at the 8 per cent lower circuit and thereafter touching the lower 16 per cent band.

Nearly all tech stocks were down 16 per cent in the first hour itself. Stocks like Himachal and DSQ Software did not move from these levels and witnessed a one side seller of more than 10 lakh shares on the BSE.

Other stocks peformed relatively better on the intra-day basis. Led by NIIT, there was a sharp recovery in the tech stocks at about 12:30 IST. The stock rallied from the lower 16 per cent band to the upper 16 per cent band, thereby gaining 32 per cent on the intra-day basis and posting its all time high volume of 10.6 lakh shares.

Similar volatility was witnessed in the stocks like Infosys, Satyam and Reliance.

Pivotals too came under strong selling pressure. Stocks like ACC, Tisco, Telco, IPCL and MTNL were down more than 10 per cent. Meanwhile, Sensex touched its 22- month low intra-day.

Sensex down 219 points 3549. Nifty down 64 points at 1134.

DSQ Software, Himachal, Digital, HCL Info, Global, Sterlite Opti, SSI, Wipro, Silverline, Pentamedia, Reliance Petro, Aptech, Rolta, Sterlite Ind, SBI, Tisco, Telco, ACC, ITC.

Losers: Between 5 per cent and 7.89 per cent
L&T, SBI, ICICI, Gujarat Ambuja, Dr Reddy, Century, Glaxo, Dabur, GNFC, Castrol, Thermax.
