Market@January 17: Day's report

Software stocks showed a mixed trend. Infosys remained strong for a major part of the day and gained more than 3 per cent.

SSI, which dipped sharply during the first half of the day, showed a sharp recovery during the last half hour of trading.

Other stocks also recovered during the last 30 minutes. Among the old economy stocks, the cement stocks attracted strong buying. Grasim, Gujarat Ambuja, L&T and ACC gained smartly.

Bhel, HLL and ITC remained firm for a major part of the day.

Sensex up 16 points at 4087. Nifty up 7 points at 1300.
