Indian American's firm among NJ's 50 fastest growers

George Joseph in New York

Indian American-run New Age Systems in New Jersey has been selected as one of the 50 fastest growing technology companies in the state for the second year in a row.

New Jersey Technology Fast 50 last year ranked it the ninth fastest growing technology company in New Jersey with an impressive 1.78 percent growth rate in the last five years.

The continuing success is nothing unusual for founder Johny John, who has always targeted tomorrow. Two years before stating New Age Systems in 1994, he coined the slogan which contained the motto of the company, "Solving tomorrow's problems today."

With more than 65 employees, New Age Systems, based in Somerset, Franklin Township has demonstrated phenomenal growth throughout these years to fulfill the dream of the founder.

The company is a leader in client/server applications and Internet technologies. It was also selected as the 126th fastest growing private company in the US last year by Inc. magazine.

"I strive to always be one step ahead of our competition because there are literally thousands of companies in New Jersey that do what we do," John said.

He has another technology company in Cochin, Kerala, focusing on software development. New Jersey Technology Fast 50 is an award program sponsored by Deloitte & Touche LLP, The NASDAQ Stock Market, New Jersey Technology Council, Regional Business Partnership, University Heights Science Park and First Union National Bank.

The selection was made on the growth rate of last five years. The award will be presented on August 16.

John says he always wanted to do something that has a big impact on society. With an electrical engineering degree, he worked in IBM, McKinsey & Company and Chubb Insurance before starting his own company.

He and his wife, Limy, who has a master's in computer science, worked as computer consultants and it was natural for them to start a business on similar lines, John said.

"I don't think we have achieved anything big yet. Even if we become really big, it would not change our life. We will always try to do the best we can and take whatever comes with it," he said.

"Our goal is to be the best provider of business solutions using IT with an emphasis on quality and value," he said.

Among the major companies that use New Age's services are Telcordia Technologies (formerly, Bell-Core), IBM Corporation, AT&T, Factiva Technology, Merrill Lynch, Alliance Capital, CompUSA and Camp systems International.

New Age Systems helps companies throughout U.S. harness the power of IT, while maintaining long-term customer and partner relationship and extremely low staff turnover, he said.

The company specialises in study, design, development, implementation and maintenance for a broad range of industries that makes New Age Systems a trendsetter in the business, John said.

Though the company provides full range of services it has excelled in three fields, developing custom software computer applications, creating Web-enabling applications and providing system administration services for clients, he said.
