Market@May 31: Day's report

Market opened extremely strong with Nasdaq showing impressive gains, almost all software stocks opened with a 8 per cent gap and a large number of them hit the 12 per cent circuit. However, marginal profit booking was witnessed in the last ten minutes in the software counters. Non-software stocks also opened firm but came under strong selling pressure in the latter part of the day.

Trading volumes remained comparatively high on both exchanges. Himachal Futuristic, Satyam Computer, Global Tele, Reliance and Infosys topped the volume charts accounting for 45 per cent of the total trading volume on the BSE. Meanwhile, trading volumes on the ITC counter was close to its all-time high.

Sensex up 123 points at 4435, Nifty gains 34 points at 1378.

Gainers: Between 5 per cent and 7.9 per cent
Zee Tele, Silverline, Cipla, HCL Info, Wipro, Moser Baer, Cadila Health, Sibar Soft, PSI Data, Krone Com, CMC, United Bre, MRF, Onward Techno, NELCO, Arvind Mills, Hind Power, Cyberspace and Zicom Elec.

Losers: Between 12 per cent and 7.9 per cent
HDFC, HPCL, BPCL, LCC Info, KLG Sytel, Media Video and Vans Info,

Losers: Between 7.9 per cent and 5 per cent
ACC, Bhel, IPCL, VSNL, India Cements, Kesoram, E Merck, Madras Ref and Ashima Syntex.
